Organic black cumin seeds from controlled organic cultivation in Egypt with a strong, spicy, slightly nutty and finely peppery aroma. The whole black seeds are particularly suitable for bread, flatbread, curries, rice dishes, vegetables, dips and spice blends.
The black cumin seeds are gently dried and cleaned after harvesting and offered as whole seeds. This preserves their characteristic aroma and essential oils particularly well. With a grain size of about 3 mm, the seeds can be evenly distributed in doughs and dishes or used decoratively as a topping.
Black cumin is primarily common in Oriental and Middle Eastern cuisine. The seeds can be used directly or toasted briefly before use. Toasting develops a more intense, slightly nutty and roasted aroma.
Origin
The black cumin seeds come from Egypt, a traditional cultivation region for Nigella sativa. The warm climate offers good conditions for the development of the typical strong aroma.
Cultivation / Production / Harvest
The black cumin is cultivated according to organic farming guidelines. After ripening, the seed pods are harvested and gently dried. Subsequently, the seeds are removed from the pods, cleaned and sorted.
Features
The whole seeds retain their aroma longer than pre-ground black cumin. Their deep black color also makes them a decorative topping for bread, pastries and various savory dishes.
Taste & Aroma
Black cumin has an intense, spicy aroma with slightly nutty, tart and peppery notes. When toasted briefly, it develops additional roasted flavors and an even stronger fragrance.
